Rating: 12A

Director: Mike Leigh
Running Time: 150 minutes

Synopsis:

J.M.W Turner is widely regarded as one of the greatest British painters of all time, with a legacy that has not waned since his death in 1775. An eccentric man who lived life to the full, he was celebrated and reviled in equal measure by everyone from the common man to royalty, throughout his career.

Mr Turner focuses on the last 25 years of his life, where he painted much of his best work, travelled, rubbed shoulders with aristocracy and eventually settled down with the love of his life in Chelsea. The film delves into the despair felt after the death of his father, and also features the on-off fling he had with his doting housekeeper.

Written and directed by the critically acclaimed Mike Leigh (Secrets and Lies, Vera Drake), Mr Turner swept critics at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival away, where it competed for the Palme d’Or and saw Timothy Spall take the Best Actor gong. The buzz surrounding this picture suggests it could also be a serious contender for the 2015 awards season.
